Kind: Dark Colombian Supremo
Brand: La Crème Coffee & Tea
This weeks pick of coffee tasting, is the ever so rich and
bold coffee made by La Crème Coffee & Tea. My flavor of choice was their Dark
Colombian Supremo.
I just so happen to visit a wonderful coffee shop in the
Dallas, Texas downtown area. Not but a block away from a Starbucks. So to my
surprise this told me that this little whole in the wall coffee shop had to
have something going right for it to still be up and running. Oh… They sure did!
I promise, I will get to the coffee part in a minute.
First, I just have to say the deserts in the glass case were
incredible. From wonderful looking cup cakes and cookies, to delicious croissants
and empanadas filling the
shelf.
Ok, enough of
the food and desert talk. Not only did this coffee shop have a great rustic
atmosphere as if you stepped into an Australian coffee house. They even
supplied a wonderful environment with the eclectic music and dim light in the
area’s where you’d like to just sit and relax and absorb the relaxation. Just
to get away from the city for an hour or two, and that I did.
Needless to
say, I still wasn’t sure how their coffee would taste. So me being the cautious
type, I ordered the medium blend coffee that they had written in chalk on their
board above.
Of course,
tasting the coffee first before adding any cream or sugar. I was so amazed by
its rich boldness even for a medium blend. Not over powering of course.
That is
something I always try to find in a coffee. Bold, but not the bitter taste that
comes with it.
Unfortunately,
as you probably already know it is hard to find that with out having to add a
ton of cream and sugar with most coffees that are bold. Of course, basically
defeating the entire purpose of having a nice strong coffee.
Well, this
coffee even as a medium flavor hit the spot so perfectly. I only had to add a
dash of cream and sugar to it, and it was amazing.
Take in mind I
don’t use those words loosely as you know when it comes to tasting foods and
coffee from restaurants or coffee shops.
This coffee had
a very rich but bitter scent to it even for a medium coffee. But, the scent of
the coffee definitely had me fooled when it came to actually tasting it. This
is one coffee that tastes better than it smells. Now that did throw me for a
loop.
I enjoyed this
coffee so much, that I had to get a bag of the next step above the mild.
So of course I
asked the lady behind the counter to recommend the next step above what I had
just had to drink. She came out from around the counter and headed over to the
self near the wall and handed me the Dark Colombian Supremo Coffee. When I saw
the price of the coffee I thought. Wow, this is as much as Starbucks. I
couldn’t help but to take a look at the grind once purchased. Oh my… You talk
about a nice dark grind and a smooth texture. This coffee was the jackpot, I
could tell already.
Like I say in
many of my writings related to coffee. It’s like Christmas or that special
birthday present you’ve always been wanting for. I couldn’t wait to get home
the next day and put this one in the coffee maker.
That is
exactly what I did, the day after I got home. I had my taste buds ready and my
sniffer on alert for when the coffee maker would kick on in the morning.
I will put
this very simply. Delicious! I thought the mild was amazing. But the Dark
Colombian Supremo was unbeatable. Yes, this coffee was somewhat pricey although
it was definitely worth every penny. I actually tested my family once when
visiting. They were very surprised as coffee drinkers on how delicious it
really was.
Would I
recommend purchasing this coffee? Absolutely yes, if you are looking for a rich
and bold coffee with very little bitterness, then this coffee is for you. The
grind is one of the darkest I’ve seen as a matter of fact, for not having that
bitter taste with it. If you are not sure if you’d like the Dark Colombian
Supremo, go for the mild. I’m sure it will be to your liking.
My over all rating
of this coffee as far as price and flavor. Both a thumbs up! It’s worth the
price. For fragrance, I’d give it a thumbs down. Remember though, this coffee
is a lot better than it smells. So that judgment won’t really count on this
coffee. Oh, and in case you are wondering? The jolt of the caffeine in this
coffee is very adequate as well. I would recommend this coffee as a fall or
winter coffee though. It is a little to heavy for my taste in the heat of the
summer time, unless it’s on ice with cream
