Don't star gaze this Saturday... Moon gaze!

Written by: Brett O. Smith

No... The moon is not bigger on Saturday. But, it will be best visible on this Saturday, May 5, 2012.

Known as the "Supermoon". Saturday is the time of the moon's perigee. The month at which the moon is closet to approach Earth. This perigee is known at this point to be the best of the entire year.
At times the moon's perigee differs from one month to another. Within the 12 months of the year this is the best time to observe the moon. So get out the telescope or binoculars and take advantage of this time. Keep those fingers crossed of a nice clear evening. Even though Friday evening did show some of it's glow more than usual.
